Emulsion Polymers Consulting and Education
This intensive workshop deals with the basic factors controlling particle morphology achieved via grafting in emulsion polymerization. Such latices are used as impact modifiers for engineering thermoplastics. Emphasis is placed on the grafting reactions of second stage monomers onto elastic seed (first stage) polymers within latex particles in the 80-500 nm size range. Discussion is extended to include the characterization of the grafted polymers and the morphological structure of the resultant latex particles. In addition, we consider the polymer recovery steps of coagulation and spray drying. We also treat the structure/property relationships (e.g. Izod Impact) of final products made with the grafted polymers.
